Ireland and Munster legend Peter Stringer is set to continue his time in the English Premiership with his signing of a one year deal with the Sale Sharks. this follows the announcement that his contract with Bath would not be extended. Speculation had been rife that Stringer would move back across the Irish Sea next term and extend his playing career with Leinster. This contract with Sale now firmly closes that door.
At 37, Stringer is certainly now one of the elder statesmen in the Premiership, in any professional league that is, but such is the strength and fitness of the man that he is still highly regarded and sought after. With 98 international caps for Ireland, over 250 caps for Munster, plus having plied his trade in England since 2011, Stringer brings a wealth of experience that you just do not see anymore.
Keen not just to be the experienced head from which the younger squad members can learn from, Stringer has stated clearly that he plans to contest the starting place at Scrum Half with Scotland international, Chris Cusiter. Knowing the tenacity and professionalism of this Irish legend, he will be giving selectors a real headache when it comes to picking their starting No.9.
No better man Peter, best of luck!
