Representation: Ireland U18 Youth, U19
Leitrim Full-back Shane Layden had a season to remember for the Connacht U20’s in 2011. A first half try against Ulster in Ravenhill and a memorable hat-trick against Munster in Dubarry Park were vital in helping Connacht secure the Inter-Provincial title. Another member of Cistercian College Roscrea’s Leinster School’s Cup final team of last year, Shane now plays his club rugby with Buccaneers. He has also represented his country at U18 and U19 levels. Like Conor Finn, Tadhg Leader and Jack Carty, Shane is also a skillful footballer and played on the Roscommon Minor team in 2009 and 2010. He will be hoping that his try scoring exploits will catch the eye of Eric Elwood enough to earn him a chance with the senior team.
